welcome to orlando, do you mind telling us how you came to be here ?
orlando feels like home. i was here for about a year or so from when i was sixteen, waiting so i could sign up for the marines. so it felt right to come back here, a lot of my family moved here too so it just seemed right coming back here.
explain a day in your shoes, we want to know all the dirty secrets .
for the last two and a half years i've gotten into the habbit of sleeping on the most uncomfortable camp bed possible, sleeping at 7pm and waking at 4am. pulling on my boots and a dark tshirt and eating whatever overcooked meal was available for breakfast and then taking the day as it comes. it's obviously going to be incredibly different now.
what is the most significant event in your life ?
probably being in the explosion, it's changed my perspective on life.
everyone has a story, a bit of background information, surely you do to, mind sharing ?
i was born and raised in atlanta, at the time my parents weren't married, but they married two years after i was born. my parents wanted to homeschool me so i wouldn't get distracted by anything. but when i was fourteen they asked me if i wanted to go to school and i told them i wanted to go to military school, because i'd already decided that's what i wanted to be. i wanted to be in the marines and have a job which was interesting, thrilling, exciting, crucial and not some 9 til 5 desk job which wouldn't stretch my abilities. so after a lot of persuasion i managed to get them to look into military school. thjere wasn't many good ones around our state, but my parents didn't mind looking out of state. then we found florida, a small but intense military academy just outside of orlando. thankfully they weren't full and agreed to take me for a week before deciding if they would accept me and they did.
so i went to the academy for two years, loved it but then, i guess it was just the atmosphere and the people, i snapped. threw a few punshes and walked out of the school and went to stay with my aunt who swore she wouldn't tell my parents. so i waited until i was 17 so i could join the marines and of course i was left at base for a long time until theyu eventually decided to draft me up when i was almost twenty. warzone was where i thrived, i was alert, i enjoyed the thrill and the feeling of uncertainty. but then whilst on patrol with a few more privates there was a bomb, i took a bit of force which threw me and snapped my lower spine leaving my legs paralysed but hopefully not unfixable. i refused to leave but i was sent home after about three months in the hospital and here i am. with no one knowing why the hell i'm in a wheelchair.
fears, goals, dreams, why dont you tell us where you wish to be in five years time ?
i want to be walking and back out there in five years.
just one last question, what are three things you cant live without .
uncertainty, thrill, family.
